As an avid skier, surfer, and mountain biker, Stefan Ytterborn, founder of POC and the innovative electric off-road motorcycle company CAKE, has always been drawn to speed and the adrenaline rush of active sports. In a recent Ride Boundless podcast episode,
Stefan shares his insights on the transition period we are currently experiencing in the world of motorbikes and how he believes a new category of electric bikes is emerging.
Stefan's journey into the world of electric bikes was fueled by his realization that the traditional motorbike experience - with its complexities of clutching, changing gears, and the like - creates barriers for many potential riders. Furthermore, off-roading with traditional motorbikes has its limitations, as not all terrains are suitable for such vehicles. As he delved deeper into the space, Stefan spent hours riding Husqvarna enduros to understand the dynamics of off-road motorcycling.
Convinced that electric drivetrains are ideal for light, nimble vehicles, Stefan envisions a future where the majority of CAKE's business will be inspired by off-road experiences while still catering to urban commuters. With the average commuting distance being about 8 miles, electric bikes present a perfect solution as cities around the world work to reorganize their transportation infrastructure.
